I made this quilt for my little niece. This was my first applique attempt! Not as scary or as hard as I thought it was going to be but I think that next time I will use silk thread instead of cotton. My sister says that the stitches don't show as much. Aha!
I used 100% cotton fabric for most of the top. I did, however, use a layer of chiffon over the water to give it a "sheen". I liked the effect! I was worried about it not holding up too well in the wash but she has been using it and washing it a lot and it still looks great.

The banner is embroidered with Psalm 1:3 "You shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water." I know that she will be strong and steadfast like a tree planted by a river!
My favorite part of the quilt.... the TREE! The quilting on the tree trunk took me over 10 hours to complete! I did it during a Lord of the Rings marathon!
This little girl approves. :) And that is what counts!
I hope you enjoyed! Go here for more details and pictures! Including a moon made of cheese! :)
Thanks for looking! And thanks for hosting the quilt fest Park City Girl!

Your photo is lovely...that quilt hanging above the green grass and everything singing home around the unique quilt in the sunshine...and the Word that does not return void singing across the waters...lovely...what a gift you have and what gift you have made and what a gift you have given. Just lovely!
Great creative use of the different fabrics!
OH what a beautiful quilt and a beautiful little girl! Thank you so much for sharing. Is it odd I get excited when I see quilts sporting fabric I own too. LOL. I love that you used it as bark. Awesome.

It is stunning!
very cute, it looks so fresh. Great Job!!
I'm not sure which is prettier, the baby or the quilt :) I love the fabric you used for the tree.
Your applique is amazing, you inspire me to try it myself... someday :)
Terrific and amazing and incredible first applique quilt! I also love the tree, but here I must confess and say that I clicked through to your blog and immersed myself in your Hobbit festival. It's these sensibilities that show up in your design: trees, green, sky, nature. I love the blending of our lives into quilts and yours is a fine example.
