Marian the maid of Sherwood

Hello merry outlaws! Here is my photo shoot of Maid Marian.. oh isn't she just lovely? I am wearing a VERY purple dress that was a hand-me-down-costume and Marguerite's Graduation Hat. It is more like Olivia de Haviland's Maid Marian rather then anyone else's versions.
(All photos by the lovely Maid Genevieve! manx!!)
I didn't mean for it to look like this dress but when i put it on.. well i had to do something somewhat like the pose! ;)
Not all of the photos are with the hat because there was extreme winds that day! yikes!
After we turned more towards Lucy Griffiths' version of Maid Marian. And the style of it reminded me of these two dresses..aren't they lovely?

what do you think of 'spying on the sheriff' for this one eh? (below) tee hee hee!

"who is she running from?"

"the funny camera girl.." ;)"Who is she laughing at?"
"heh heh.. The funny camera girl." ;)
Here i am hiding in the forest with the other outlaws.. "Mushrooms!"
no.. I'm playing bad mitton with ..an Ent. i know, I know thats Lord of the Rings! "sorry...really." ;)
happiness..

didn't it definitely look like a game played with the tree?? that is one of my favo favo parts in the cartoon when they play bad mitton! and then 'Robin' comes and saves her from 'Prince John' haha! "Oh this is so exciting!!"

this is the bush i would think to hide behind if i was wearing this dress.. My second favo favo..*sigh* I love her hairstyle in this one too!I know I know.. she doesn't wear one of these, to hold a sword with, but i don't have those coolio arm gards for a bow and arrow.. and..well i don't have a bow and arrow either..*sob*
I hope you have enjoyed my Maid Marian wardrobe so far! I am running a bit late so i hope i get all of my modern ones in tonight!
Good day fair maidens of the forest and gentle nobles of the castle.. Be ever steadfast, strong and mighty in His name.
Thank you Amanda Beth! I hope you do this next year too!!! ;) anyone else want it to happen again? yay!

Maid Marian Week...

Here is my modern Maid Marian outfit. Inspired by this outfit (below) that she wears in the second season of the BBC show.

Of course it must have a hood!
I thought these little designs looked very medieval!

I braided my hair the day before and then left it in all night so it looked like this.
Of course then afterword I looked at the picture of Maid Marian and saw that she had her hair in a bun which is normally how I wear my hair. Doh!

These boots are my favorite things! They are so warm and comfy!

These are all things I pulled out of my closet.
grey pants: Merona - brown leggings: Mossimo - blue shirt: J. Jill - blue sweatshirt: Drifter - boots: Brilliant

Thank you Amanda Beth for hosting this lovely party!
Everyone have a fabulous week!

Hello friends!

Yes, I am finally posting about Hobbit Day! One of my most favoritest days of the year! The 22nd of September, being the birthday of both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, is Hobbit Day and has been since the 1970's. However, I did not know about it until last year. This year, a week before Hobbit Day, I remembered it and then, inevitably, I forgot until I saw this lovely and yummy looking post by Proverbs 31 Maiden. << (Thank you for reminding me!) Then I decided 'SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!'. So I made sure everyone in the house knew what day it was and that we must all make merry or else! =] It was then that I realized.. we had been celebrating Hobbit day all day!
We worked in the garden, my Mother got the peaches all washed and ready for canning, we had afternoon tea... -- in fact I'm pretty sure I had ALL of the hobbit meals that day. I thought it strange that I should be more than usually hungry on that particular day... I suppose my stomach knew that it was Hobbit Day before the rest of me did.
My sister Aimee proceeded to drag my slow self out of the house to the garden to pick flowers and herbs for making wreaths. Which we did, much to the rest of our family's amusement. My sweet Mother was already making dinner, and I thought 'Too bad I didn't think of it before.. We could've had a Hobbit meal!' When what to my eyes delight did I see?
Chicken, frying in a cast iron skillet, pasta cooking in a pot and the yummiest smelling squash soup made from squash we grew in our garden,Zucchini and herbs from the garden being sauteed (before the tomatoes got put in),
"Oh that's nice! Ashes on my tomatoes!" -Peregrin Took and... Mushrooms (of all things!) chopped up, ready to be put in with the chicken... I think my Mother is secretly a hobbit. *nods and looks very certain whilst contemplating*
(you must read the quote about mushrooms on the side bar. It's one of my very favorites!) =]

Then of course we could not let the day pass without dressing up, so we put on our hodge-podge, make shift Hobbit costumes.

Aimee's wreath had green beans from the garden on it. And yes, they were very tasty!
I had to read the passage about mushrooms to the rest of the 'hobbits' at the table because you cannot celebrate Hobbit Day AND eat mushrooms without hearing it.

"This, my friend, is a pint." -Merriadoc Brandybuck

Hobbit's really are very quaint little people. =]
But they have big hearts and can be very brave.

I should like to be a hobbit and live in a hole in the ground...

After dinner, while doing the dishes, we drank Apple Cider and sang all the drinking songs we knew. hee hee!

Then we danced around the living room till our heads began to spin, and laughed till our sides ached.

‘I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.’ This was unexpected and rather difficult. There was some scattered clapping, but most of them were trying to work it out and see if it came to a compliment.” ~Bilbo, in his speech on his eleventy-first birthday (tFotR, p. 31)"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." ~Lady Galadriel

I hope you've enjoyed celebrating Hobbit Day with us! Leave a comment and tell us how you celebrated Hobbit Day! I don't know about you, but I am certainly not waiting a whole year to have another Hobbit Day. =]
May your fire be bright, your mug over flowing and your larder ever bountiful,
Marguerite

Quilt Festival!

I thought I would participate in Park City Girl's online Quilt Festival!
I made this quilt for my little niece. This was my first applique attempt! Not as scary or as hard as I thought it was going to be but I think that next time I will use silk thread instead of cotton. My sister says that the stitches don't show as much. Aha!

I used 100% cotton fabric for most of the top. I did, however, use a layer of chiffon over the water to give it a "sheen". I liked the effect! I was worried about it not holding up too well in the wash but she has been using it and washing it a lot and it still looks great.

The banner is embroidered with Psalm 1:3 "You shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water." I know that she will be strong and steadfast like a tree planted by a river!

My favorite part of the quilt.... the TREE! The quilting on the tree trunk took me over 10 hours to complete! I did it during a Lord of the Rings marathon!

This little girl approves. :) And that is what counts!

I hope you enjoyed! Go here for more details and pictures! Including a moon made of cheese! :)

Thanks for looking! And thanks for hosting the quilt fest Park City Girl!
